The Brief
ThirdSpace is a non-profit community center located in Brooklyn, New York that I co-founded in 2024. Our center is a 1,100 sqft loft, a space for the community to gather and feel safe at home.
A clear challenge when designing the space is that it would need to flex for our large variety of different programs. It would need to be easily re-organized and structures for groups big and small, performances, panels, workshops and more.
My Solution
Given the purpose is to make members feel close to home, I used furnishings to established visual boundaries that broke the open space up into rooms that feel like a home: a living area, dining room, kitchen, and reading nook.
With the goal of bringing tranquility to a over-stimulated New Yorker, I maintained a neutral palette when furnishing. I designed the major gathering points to be centered around the space's most loved quality: the wall of windows.
Lastly, I designed and fabricated custom coffee tables, a kitchen island, and shelving for the space.
